Fuzzy matching logic is one of Automated Auditor’s core strengths. Fuzzy matching is the ability to join phrases that either look or sound alike but are not spelled the same. For example, “Elizabeth Banks” and “Banks, Liz E.” are close enough to the human eye and ear that they should be counted as similar. How is fuzzy matching performed, and why is it important? At Automated Auditors, we have developed a library of proprietary fuzzy matching algorithms that have been tested in a wide variety of industries.
Entity resolution, often called record linkage or de-duplication, is a set of algorithms and fuzzy matching techniques that consolidates data into smaller categories. It is a systematic approach to consolidating duplicate records into one record, but also a method to categorize related data into unique clusters of meaningful data.
AnyConnection© is a powerful, unique approach to uncovering hidden relationships in large data bases. It is very useful for fraud detection and entity resolution because it allows seemingly disparate records to be joined and related, even if they are related only via another record. AnyConnection© finds linkages between records that may be separated by N degrees and seemingly have nothing in common. For example if persons A and B share the same phone number, B and C have similar addresses, and C and D share the same bank account, our software links A with D even though they may have nothing directly in common. Using the power of fuzzy matching logic, AnyConnection© can uncover hidden relationships, which is extremely relevant for fraud detection, uncovering terrorist networks, and collusion.
Automated Auditors has created a suite of Accounts Payable Fraud Detection algorithms that have been utilized for several large corporate disbursement audits. Our team of analysts can work with most A/P systems and can accept .csv, .txt, Excel, Access, and other types of data files. Our staff utilizes the most powerful business intelligence and data mining software in the industry – SAS – and is able to process millions of records quickly.
Automated Auditors has created a suite of payroll fraud detection algorithms that will assist you in your fraud risk assessment. Some of the red flags we look for are employees who share an address or bank account number, an employee with a P.O. Box or Mail Drop box rental, and employees with no tax withholdings, no sick or vacation leave taken.
Vendor file maintenance is a necessary step to maintaining overall accounts payable health. Duplicate payments are often a result of duplicate vendors in the Master Vendor file. Let Automated Auditors handle the complex work of eliminating and consolidating duplicate vendor records. We have completed vendor file maintenance projects for large corporations and entities such as The World Bank, which had perhaps the largest and most complex vendor file we have seen to date because of the foreign names and addresses.
Automated Auditors, LLC has worked on several fraud, litigation, and dispute resolution cases over the past decade since we were founded in 2002. We have provided complex data management support for cases involving royalty fraud, franchise disputes, election fraud, tax scheme fraud, and accounts receivables fraud. We have successfully worked with several forensic accountants and Certified Fraud Examiners (CFE) to provide in-depth data support for fraud cases.
Automated Auditors, LLC can cross-walk your files against the Death Master File, in batch mode, to determine if any of your customers, patients, or vendors are actually deceased individuals. The Death Master File is a file maintained by the Social Security Administration that contains over 86 million records of deceased individuals in the U.S. It contains their SSN, name, birth date, and death date. This file is useful for fraud detection because many fraudsters purposely utilize SSNs of the dead to incorporate fake businesses, or try to obtain false claims in the name of a deceased individual.
The Mail Drop File is a useful tool for identifying fictitious entities and potential fraud occurring in multiple industries. Automated Auditors uses the file to identify fake entities that use a mail drop rental to represent their fictitious store front. Fraudsters prefer a mail box rental to a P.O. Box because it has a real street address with a “suite” number, thereby going unnoticed in fraud detection systems. This happens frequently in organized crime cases, Medicare and Medicaid fraud, and other industries.
With over 20 years of experience working with data from a variety of industries, Automated Auditors is ready to handle your complex data management and predictive analytics needs. We are experts at merging disparate files, combining structured data with unstructured data, quantifying data, and preparing data for sophisticated predictive analytics. Our analysts are also adept at using SAS to develop predictive models for identifying fraud, waste, and abuse.
